The 2011
VSSEC-NASA Australian Space Prize category winners have been
announced. This prize gives Australian university students the opportunity to attend one of three 10 week NASA Academies or participate in a NASA affiliated summer program.
This is a special opportunity as these programs are normally only available to US citizens. The prize winner will work directly with NASA scientists and engineers and provide students with direct contact with advanced science and engineering research and development. The program will also give experience into the complex managerial, political, financial, social and human issues faced by the current and future aerospace programs.
Seventeen applications were received from nine different universities. The applications were reviewed by Australians working around the world in the space industry. They selected five talented category winners, who will now prepare their final applications to gain a spot in the NASA Academy.
NASA will review the finalist five applications, and announce the overall winner in March.
The winners of each category are:

High-Speed Digitally Enhanced Heterodyne Interferometry
Geology and Planetary Geology
Cynthia Rathini Mahendran (University of Technology Sydney)
