Space has an official address this week — it's Sydney.

The global space sector has united on our shores for the 76th International Astronautical Congress.

The world’s leading space event is now underway in the city's scenic Darling Harbour with representation from more than 7,000 delegates from around 90 countries.

“The large turnout for IAC 2025 is testament to the desire for the international space community to collaborate with Australia, as well as the capability that we have to offer.

“This week is a chance to not only show how far our industry has come but to cement new opportunities that will see it continue to grow for the benefit of all Australians.”

~ Head of the Australian Space Agency Enrico Palermo

IAC 2025 is organised by the International Astronautical Federation and is hosted by the Space Industry Association of Australia, with co-hosts the Australian Space Agency and the New South Wales Government.

The annual Congress is the one place and time of the year where all global space actors come together. This year’s event will cover all elements of space and highlight the latest developments in academia and industry, as well as networking opportunities and potential partnerships.

Showcasing Australia's vibrant space ecosystem

The 76th edition of the Congress is a pivotal moment for Australia to lead on the global stage and be an ambassador for space as a strategic enabler of economic growth, social progress, and environmental sustainability.

“IAC 2025 is a terrific opportunity to show the world how much momentum and growth has been achieved in the Australian space sector in the eight years since the Congress was last held here.

~ Minister for Industry and Innovation and Minister for Science Tim Ayres

IAC 2025 will also unite the sector with the end-users of space across a range of other industries — from agriculture to resources.  They will access the latest advancements and trends, academic works, industry connections and partnership opportunities.

“The space industry delivers vital services to all Australians. It underpins the success of many industries that are critical to growing productivity and securing Australia’s future prosperity.

“IAC 2025 is a great opportunity to showcase Australia’s exceptional talent and connect with partners on the global stage – creating commercial opportunities and high paying jobs across the country.”

~ Assistant Minister for Assistant Minister for Science, Technology and the Digital Economy Dr Andrew Charlton.

Across the week, the Australian Space Agency’s Stand will play host to a number of key events, including a panel discussion on the importance of space technologies and engagement in the Pacific region and Australian Space Flight opportunities.

Our Stand will showcase local capabilities across space technology and services; advanced manufacturing; research and innovation; and sustainable practices.

Strengthening partnerships

At IAC 2025, the Australian Government is announced a mandate begin negotiations on a Cooperative Agreement between the European Space Agency and Australia. This marks a new chapter in Australian and European space cooperation. The mandate will establish a formal mechanism to help open up new and exciting opportunities between Europe and Australian space sectors.

A treaty-level Space Framework Agreement between Australia and the United States has also been agreed – opening the door to new opportunities for government, businesses and researchers to collaborate on joint projects with NASA and other American partners.

“Strengthening Australia’s international partnerships with NASA and the European Space Agency creates new opportunities for Australian ideas and technologies, improving Australia’s industrial capability, boosting productivity, and building economic resilience.”
