During the 69th session, Australia reaffirmed the need for international cooperation and rules-based engagement in the peaceful use and exploration of outer space.
- Agenda item 5 highlights Australia’s support for multilateral cooperation, Indo-Pacific engagement, long-term sustainability work, CEOS leadership and practical improvements to COPUOS processes.
- Agenda item 6 emphasises responsible behaviour, space security dialogue, the role of COPUOS, and links between Vienna-based space safety work and Geneva-based disarmament discussions.
- Agenda item 12 highlights the role of satellite imagery, geospatial data, positioning, Earth observation and international cooperation in climate monitoring, mitigation, adaptation and resilience.
- Agenda item 14 includes Australia’s statement on behalf of MIKTA on the future role and methods of work of the Committee. It supports practical, implementable measures to strengthen COPUOS, preserve capacity-building and technical assistance, support UNISPACE-IV and advance inclusive, sustainable and law-based space governance
