From curiosity to careers: Helping shape Australia’s future space and STEM talent.

The Australian Space Discovery Centre is boosting its educational programs to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators with its new operating model.

From 1 September 2026, the Discovery Centre will dedicate weekdays during school terms exclusively to delivering education programs.

The new approach reflects growing demand from schools and educators across the country for hands-on learning experiences that bring science, technology, engineering and mathematics to life.

The Discovery Centre will remain open to the general public on weekends and seven days across the South Australian school holiday periods – ensuring families and visitors can continue to engage with our exhibitions, programs and events.

Reaching thousands more students across the country

While based in Adelaide, the Discovery Centre's reach extends nationwide.

Alongside expanded onsite programs, it will continue to deliver online learning opportunities, teacher professional development, digital classroom resources and educational content for schools across Australia.

By combining in-person and digital engagement, the Centre will connect with more students and educators, helping build the skills and aspirations needed for Australia's future workforce.

Expanding access to space-inspired learning

The change aligns closely with the Australian Space Agency’s vision of strengthening Australia’s future capability in science, technology and innovation. As Australia’s space sector continues to grow, developing a pipeline of skilled workers is increasingly important for both industry and the broader economy.

Investing in Australia's future workforce

By increasing our focus on education engagement, we're helping more students develop the skills, confidence and curiosity needed to support future space and STEM careers.

Supporting teachers and classrooms across Australia

Alongside our in-person and online programs, the Discovery Centre will continue to deliver digital resources that will help teachers bring space and STEM learning into classrooms nationwide.

Education is our primary focus

The new operating model strengthens our role as a leading STEM education provider, ensuring more students can access a curriculum-aligned learning experience with a space focus.

Scaling what works

The changes allow us to direct resources to deliver the greatest educational benefit and learning impact for students, while also responding to the strong demand from educators.

New opening hours for space enthusiasts

The updated model represents more than an operational change.

It is a long-term investment in Australia’s next-generation – creating opportunities for more young people to engage with space, explore new career pathways and imagine themselves contributing to the nation’s innovation future.

While weekday operations will focus on education delivery, the Discovery Centre will remain open to the general public on weekends and seven days across the South Australian school holiday periods.
