Two growing space sectors. New opportunities across Earth and orbit.

Australia and India’s space partnership continues to grow, with new agreements connecting businesses, researchers and technologies across both countries.

This growing commercial momentum was on display at the 9th Bengaluru Space Expo (BSX 2026), where several companies who were part of the Australian industry delegation signed five memorandums of understanding with Indian organisations.

The Australian Space Agency joined the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), the Government of Western Australia and the Space Industry Association of Australia (SIAA) to showcase capabilities from across Australia’s space sector. Australia’s presence at the expo was supported by the Assessing New Markets Initiative.

The international agreements connect Australian organisations including LatConnect 60, Space Angel and the University of Western Australia with Indian partners across industry, research and education. More agreements between the two sectors are expected to follow.

The collaborations could help:

  • Support satellite missions and ground stations.
  • Create new pathways for microgravity research.
  • Advance spacecraft testing, capsule recovery and future return missions.

Each agreement is different, but they share a common goal: Combining expertise to solve complex challenges, develop new technologies and create commercial opportunities.

Deepening industry-to-industry space cooperation

BSX has become an important platform for Australian and Indian organisations to build connections and identify projects that can benefit both countries.

The agreements signed in Bengaluru mark another practical step forward for Australia and India, strengthening connections between their space sectors and supporting future missions from Earth orbit to deep space.

Head of the Australian Space Agency Enrico Palermo underscored how the countries are increasingly turning shared space ambitions into actions

Mr Palermo highlighted how Australia’s strengths in satellite technology, robotics, communications, remote operations and lunar exploration and how these national capabilities complement India’s growing commercial space sector and extensive mission experience.

India is one of Australia’s enduring space partners, with cooperation covering strategically important areas such as advanced manufacturing, space exploration, artificial intelligence and space situational awareness.

These are all areas where we can best work together, in addition to offering Australia’s state-of-the art space tracking and monitoring capabilities.

Throughout the expo, Indian stakeholders highlighted Australia’s support for the Gaganyaan program as a practical demonstration of the trust underpinning the space partnership. At BSX, the Australian Space Agency and Indian Space Research Organisation progressed several bilateral initiatives, including India’s historic Gaganyaan Human Spaceflight Program.

Beyond BSX, some members of the delegation touring facilities of GalaxEye and Ananth Technologies where components for future Gaganyaan missions are being developed. They also attended ISRO’s Deep Space Network facility in Byalalu to gain insight into India’s expanding space science missions and supporting communications, tracking and data infrastructure.

The Australian Space Agency also hosted an Australia–India Industry Breakfast focused on advancing the Statement on Space. Participants discussed priority areas for cooperation and practical ways to reduce barriers for businesses and researchers.

The Agency also co-hosted an Australia–United Kingdom networking event to help organisations build broader international connections.
