Other Australian regulatory approvals that may be applicable 

Space activities are subject to authorisations and oversight from authorities other than the Australian Space Agency.

They may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Radiocommunications licencing for communication with satellites 

  • Aviation safety and air traffic regulations 

  • Maritime rules and regulations 

  • Environmental protections and biodiversity controls 

  • Native Title and First Nations heritage protections 

  • Customs regulations, including biosecurity 

  • Export of defence and strategic goods 

  • State and Territory regulations, such as environmental, land, planning and building authorities

Technology Safeguards Agreement

The TSA provides a legal framework for US organisations to conduct spaceflight activities from Australian territory. It outlines the safeguarding mechanisms required to protect sensitive US technologies.
